To evaluate the operating performance of an existing pumped sea water fire fighting system serving a heli-deck, determine the plant limitations based on a revised system layout, identify any changes required and implement potential plant optimisation opportunities.
Cochin engineers were able to use the software proficiently within one day allowing them to quickly predict the performance of the upgraded system whilst retaining the existing circulating pump. The engineers were also able to establish that the existing pump could be successfully re-used which avoided the need for an additional pump saving more time and revenue.

Assystem – Marine Building
To size and select a complete set of control valves and circulation pumps to ensure a full range of required flow conditions were achievable and identify any required changes to the initial rig design layout.
The Assystem team was able to develop a baseline design to determine pump duties, line sizes, valve performance requirements and understand the overall plant performance. Form this analysis, they Assystem was then able to liaise with their valve suppliers to obtain Cv data for off-the-shelf valves and pumps. This data was then added to the FluidFlow database allowing Assystem to verify that the selected components would allow them to achieve the range of flow requirements set out by the customer.
Tecsar – Consulting Engineering
A client was experiencing water hammer in a process water cooling exchanger due to flashed steam collapsing. The result was noise, vibration and damage/failure of the exchanger. This project required the relocation of a flow control valve to the outlet of the exchanger to maximise pressure until the process water was cooled, thereby preventing the hammer.
With the use of Fluid Flow, we were able to assess each of the possible on-line tiein locations (each will multiple operating cases) and rule out those that could not be made to function adequately for all operating scenarios. The system was commissioned and is operating exactly as per the FluidFlow predictions.
